The Rhythm of Learning

Building Atarraya has felt a lot like playing jazz—finding the right notes through trial, error, and intuition. At first, it’s messy. You stumble, you hit some sour chords. But with time, you find your rhythm. And when the rhythm comes together, something extraordinary happens.

For over a decade, we’ve been learning the music of shrimp farming. Not as perfectionists, but as improvisers—crafting solutions, adapting to the unexpected, and creating harmony between technology, nature, and human ingenuity.

What We’ve Learned: Listening to the Notes

Shrimp farming isn’t about brute force; it’s about finesse. It’s like a great jazz standard—simple on the surface, but profoundly complex when you dive deeper. We’ve spent years learning to work with water systems, microorganisms, and the delicate balance of nature.

We’ve also learned that progress doesn’t come from getting everything right the first time. It comes from playing, listening, and adjusting—until the sound feels just right.

At Atarraya, we’ve written three unique movements to our piece:

Shrimpbox Air: A light, nimble setup that transforms underutilized urban spaces into thriving farms. Like our New Jersey farm—a third-floor industrial space now producing shrimp for NYC, fresh every week.

BlueWhale Shrimpbox: A modular and rugged design that works independently or in groups, proving its worth even in extreme climates. It’s versatility in action.

Oaxaca Innovation Lab: Our space for experimentation, where we push the boundaries of regenerative farming, seeking new ways to work in tune with nature.

We’ve come far, but there’s so much more to explore. Every farm we build, every shrimp we grow, is a note in a larger symphony—one that connects sustainability, efficiency, and care for the planet.

Our New Jersey farm is just the opening movement. From here, we’ll expand thoughtfully and boldly, bringing our model to more cities, more communities, and more people.

Being part of Atarraya isn’t about betting on a perfect system—it’s about believing in a team that listens, learns, and adapts. We’re here for the long haul, not to create noise, but to build something meaningful and lasting.

Having Atarraya as a partner means being part of a larger story—one driven by people who care deeply, work tirelessly, and strive to redefine what’s possible.

We believe the best compositions are still unwritten. The melody of shrimp farming is one of innovation, perseverance, and care for the planet. It’s not perfect, but it’s honest.

We’ve learned a lot along the way—about what works, what doesn’t, and how to adjust when the rhythm shifts. Now, we’re ready to take this symphony to the next level.

Are you ready to join the band?
